How can i help support your Mental Health?

Great mental health is the product of many things. Emotionally its about healthy boundaries, great relationships, self confidence and sometimes integrating those traumatic experiences so they no longer dictate your life.

Whilst we often cannot change the stressors around us, there are many ways I can help you change the way you react to that stress. This might look like using herbs or mind/body techniques to initially settle the nervous system, and then taking a deeper dive, using Root Cause Therapy and Somatic Trauma release techniques, to help shift deep-seeded emotions and limiting beliefs.

On a biochemical level there is also a lot at play- Factors like nutritional deficiencies, toxins, infections and heavy metals can all reap havoc on our mental health. All of these areas are considered and addressed during our sessions.

Some of the conditions i have experience working with are;

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • ADHD
  • Insomnia
  • Chronic Fatigue
  •  PTSD

Together we can find the tools that feel most comfortable for you. In most cases there is a leveling of mood reasonably quickly..

However, for long term stability and success, there are several key areas which are vital for great mental health. Together we can investigate which, (if any) of these might need support or correction.

For more information on some of these areas, click the + below.

Genes and Methylation
Most people have heard of the MTHFR genes and how mutations in this group can reap havoc on many aspects of your health. What many don’t realise is that there are many other genes which relate to mental health- both directly and indirectly- and govern areas like detoxification, histamine production and clearance, neurotransmitters (brain chemicals), cortisol, and inflammation. All of these play a pivotal role in the balance for mental health. There are several Functional tests which can be used in order to obtain a deeper understanding of what is going on for you as an individial.
Nutritional Deficiencies

You are what you eat!  and nutrients are the literal building blocks of every ‘feelgood’ chemical in your body and brain. I cannot emphasize enough how important it is to fuel your mental health correctly. I also understand how overwhelming this can be for someone who is feeling fatigued, depressed or overwhelmed. Together we can work out a strategy that feels achievable for you, and allows you to refill your cup!

Pyrroles

Pyrroles are a naturally occurring byproduct of haemoglobin synthesis.  While it is normal for humans to have low levels of pyrroles in their urine, around 10% of the population have an impaired ability to metabolise them- and unfortunately, pyrroles are neurotoxic, meaning higher levels can generate symptoms like:

  • Anxiety and inner tension
  • Mood Swings
  • Depression
  • Morning nausea or poor appetite
  • Histronic personality
  • Poor stress tolerance
  • Sensitivity to bright lights and sounds
  • Digestive issues
  • Poor sleep routine
  • Prone to infections

Pyrroles testing is a specialised functional test which can be arranged if necessary.

Food or Chemical sensitivities

Often overlooked, this is a very common driver of mood disorders. I can offer the options of testing, or help guide your food protocols to help investigate and pin down anything you might be reacting to. For many people this can also be corrected or reversed over time.

Heavy Metals, Infections or Mould Toxicity

In a world that is becoming increasingly overburdened by heavy metals and chemicals, there are literally thousands of them which can directly impact our mental health. From food additives to cleaning products, ,many of which have the capacity to cross the blood/brain barrier or throw out our hormonal balance.

Identifying and correcting any of these drivers can have a huge impact on your mental health and wellbeing.

Thyroid and other Hormones
Our hormones are commonly blamed for the state of our mental health, and rightly so. An imbalance in our thyroid, testosterone or progesterone levels can reap havoc on our moods. Regaining a happy hormonal system is one key to stable and happy emotions.
